Home History

The Home for Sirius Charity Foundation was established in 2000.

The Home is located in the village of Yasnogorodka, Kyiv Oblast, and operates from contributions made by the founders of the Foundation and animal fanciers from Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, Cherkasy.

We have been already engaged in sterilization and settling of dogs and cats for 9 years that enables us to resolve a problem in respect of a great number of strays in a human way.

We have settled more than 4000 animals for the years the Home is running, the Foundation carries out vaccination, sterilization and render assistance in keeping the pets by lower income families.

At present, about 1500 dogs and cats accommodates in Sirius Foundation Shelter. Each of them is inoculated, enjoys home and food. Daily foodis supplied by Mars Company distributing animal food in Ukraine and as well several food manufacturers, groceries and stores located in Kyiv. Municipal veterinary clinics provide necessary medical care for the animals.

In 2006 the Home turned out under the threat of eviction from the premises we have leased for 9 years. These premises have been already sold to the other people.

The animal fanciers made great efforts and succeeded in raising funds to acquire a new building for the Home in the village of Fyodorovka, but it requires major repair.

We managed to perform construction works partially (covering an area of 300 sq.m), including ‘cat house’, storehouse, kitchen and assistants’ room. The floor underlayment was completed, all missed roof panels were laid, the roof (over the whole building) was slated, the building was sealed, paving was laid, ceiling was arranged, and now the floor is tiled. Unfortunately we are short of finance to furnish all utilities. And at the rest area of 1,600 sq.m (dogs compartment) we do not get any work done except for the roof we have already laid. Besides, we have to erect a high close fence, and at the same time it is both our desire and the requirement of Sanitary Epidemiological Department and Veterinary Department.

In summer 2009 the shelter moved out from Yasnogorodka, and as the building in Fyodorovka was not ready we had to rent the new territoty for 2 year and place temporary fences there. Today Sirius shelter is situated in Tolukon village (near Yasnogorodka) and we are waiting for the rent period termination with horror.

We should evict the occupied place soon, but where do we leave for?

1500 animals with cruel fates found their home at last, and just about may loose it again.
